A key theme that emerged from the recent consultation process for the Plenary Council was the need for the Church in Australia to be a joyful, hope-filled and servant community. Among the issues highlighted in the process were the rediscovery of the joyful and servant nature of the Church and the strengthening of relationships between parish communities and Church agencies and organisations. Service is central to the Gospel message – it is an expression of the hope of those who serve and it enhances the experience of belonging, of community and of joy. This talk will address the important role that joy, hope and service play in a mission-focused Australian Catholic Church that responds to the call to bring God’s love to others.
