Held in honour of the upcoming centenary of the founding of The Knights of the Southern Cross in Western Australia (1922 – 2022), this symposium will explore the rich history of this Order and celebrate its contribution to the cultural and religious heritage of WA over the last 100 years.
Featuring the voices of seven Australian historians tasked with writing a book documenting the history of the Knights of the Southern Cross WA (to be released in 2023), this event will tell the tale of Catholics grappling with challenges of a bygone era and shed light on the broad role the laity played, and continues to play, within the Catholic Church and its social welfare activities.
Join us as we navigate through a centenary of sectarianism, war, conflict, politics, lay leadership, service to those in need and the ongoing effort to uphold Christian values and beliefs Australian society.
