Course Overview

The Catechism of the Catholic Church emphasises the importance of Prayer and The Sacraments in the life of a Christian. It refers to prayer as the means through which we celebrate our faith in God and enter into a personal relationship with Him (2558). As we do this, the Sacraments mark all the important stages of our Christian life and sustain us in our sense of mission as Christians (1210). Join us as we explore what prayer is, the difference between saying prayers and praying, and how the seven Sacraments can deepen and give meaning to our unique relationship with God. Presenters

Dr Margaret Scharf OP and

Dr Margaret Scharf is a member of the Dominican Sisters of WA and is currently the director of the Dominican Institute for Spirituality. Recently returned to Perth after 17 years in the United States, she is a Retreat guide and spiritual director, including the formation of Spiritual directors, and presenter of adult faith formation programmes to parish groups and school staff. Her past ministries include primary education and administration, Motor Mission, and training of catechists in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands. She has a D.Min in Spiritual Direction (GTF, Indiana), MA in Spirituality (Gonzaga University), M.Ed in Religious Studies (ECU Perth), and a GDA Intercultural Studies-Aboriginal(ECU Perth). With publications in Australia and the USA, she continues to compose liturgical music.

Rev Fr Vincent Glynn

Fr Vincent Glynn is the Episcopal Vicar for Education and Faith Formation in the Archdiocese of Perth.

He has been a Senior Lecturer in Sacramental theology at The University of Notre Dame in Fremantle and has also lectured for Catholic Institute of WA, Edith Cowan and Curtin Universities.
His seminary training was completed at St Charles Seminary Guildford WA and St Francis Xavier Seminary Adelaide SA. He was ordained a priest in December 1982. After parish appointments to city and country parishes he was sent to Rome for further studies. In 1991 he completed a Licentiate in Sacramental Theology from the Pontificio Anteneo San Anselmo Rome. Fr Vincent was the Director of the Centre for Faith Enrichment (then known as the Maranatha Institute for Adult Faith Education) from 1999-2005.
